Things to Do in Berclair

Berclair is blessed with an abundance of fun attractions for residents and visitors to enjoy. Here’s a short list of our favorites:

In the city of Memphis, the Gaisman Community Center is a recreation center and has an outdoor pool. Aerobics, fitness courses, line-dancing, ceramics, arts and crafts, guitar lessons and services for senior citizens are all sports. Although there isn’t much to offer in the park, it’s spacious and there is a good walkway around the perimeter. There are trees for shade, a playground for children and what appears to be an attached community center.

Chickasaw Country Club is a classical Southern golf club built in 1922, centrally located in the heart of Memphis. At the intersection of Sam Cooper Blvd. and Highland St., Chickasaw is conveniently located, making it accessible through the Interstate Highway system to the entire metro area. One can finish a golf round or a business lunch at Chickasaw and be at home or back in minutes at the office.

They are a bilingual congregation (Spanish/English) that aims to please God. This is a place where every meeting makes sense; a place where every person is challenged to find their role in God. They are a church where one’s life can be revived by the marvelous grace and strength of the Lord’s presence. This is where the truth and the spirit are “sought,” “taught” and “received.” They’re the Church that’s interested in you.

They come from hundreds of racial and linguistic backgrounds, yet they are bound by shared goals. Above all they want to worship the Lord, the God of the Bible and the Creator of all things. They do their best to emulate Jesus Christ, and they are proud to be called Christians. – of them constantly spends time helping people learn about the Bible and the Kingdom of God. Since they hear or speak of Jehovah God and His Kingdom, they are known as Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Grace Chapel Primitive Baptist wants their worship to be beautiful in its simplicity, in the biblical pattern, and always in the glory of God. To this end, their singing is congregational and acapella. In addition to hearing a sermon, they pray and read the Bible together. Their focus, as the name of their church implies, is on the grace of God, who by Jesus saved his people from their sins. Because of the love he gave us for the first time, they aspire to have a warm and caring love for each other and their societies.

Back in the 20’s or 30’s, Jerry was a Sinclair gas station. Rumor has it that the owner of the station would make snow cones for the kids while their parents would get their cars worked in the Sinclair garage. In the late 1960’s, after the Sinclair station had closed, an incredible couple called L.B. & Cordia opened a car wash and a snow cone shack. It was named Jerry’s Snow Cones. They’ve been serving snow cones for years to create a reputation for quality. One day the director turned up and shot a scene for the Great Balls of Fire movie. Well, famous people started showing up. The word started to spread, and people from all over the world began to make Jerry what it is today.
