CBD with Chemotherapy Found to Triple Cancer Survival in Mice

How CBD may be able to help with cancer

In a recent study, mice with pancreatic cancer who were treated with cannabidiol (CBD) and chemotherapy survived nearly three times longer than those treated with only chemotherapy—a major discovery, considering how low the survival rate typically is.

According to the American Cancer Society, pancreatic cancer is among cancer’s deadliest forms. For all stages combined, the one-year relative survival rate is 20% while the five-year rate does not even hit 7%.

Queen Mary University of London’s lead researcher Marco Falasca explains that “the life expectancy for pancreatic cancer patients has barely changed in the last 40 years because there are very few, and mostly only palliative care, treatments available.

Given the five-year survival rate for people with pancreatic cancer is less than seven percent, the discovery of new treatments and therapeutic strategies is urgently needed.”

The results of this new study make it important to keep pushing into potential human testing and eventual treatment. Falasca says, “Cannabidiol is already approved for use in clinics, which means we can quickly go on to test this in human clinical trials.”

This, however, only applies in the UK. In the US, CBD derived from marijuana is still illegal federally—a Schedule 1 substance, despite CBD being non-psychoactive (that is, it does not get you high).

CBD has also already been studied and reported to improve the side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea and vomiting, as well as showcasing possible anti-cancer properties in general.

It is clear that, while the study has not yet been reproduced on humans, the medical benefits of marijuana are undeniable and warrant further research.

From migraine symptom relief, stroke recovery, and even reducing seizure severity, the criminalization of marijuana has kept science from being able to utilize this ever more helpful compound that could now be used to majorly benefit cancer treatment.

What is CBD?

Most people by now have probably heard about cannabidiol due to all the media attention it has received over the last few years. However, not everyone knows exactly what CBD really is. CBD, like THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), are just two cannabinoids out of many (about 100 different cannabinoids).

The main differences between CBD and THC are the following:

  • CBD derived from hemp contains 0.3% or less THC
  • CBD alone doesn’t get users “high”
  • Cannabidiol from hemp will not make you fail a drug test
  • CBD is legal in the United States, THC is in legal in select states

Where should I buy CBD in San Antonio or online?

With CBD industry largely unregulated, this has led to a wave of low-quality, untested, and fake products entering the market. This has created some fear in consumers, which is completely understandable.

However, this is a shame because there are many credible, high-quality, and lab reported CBD products available on the market. It’s just about finding the right products from the right places.

This is why we started Mary Jane’s CBD Dispensary. We saw a large gap in the industry and wanted to provide the communities we operate in (Savannah, GA, Asheville, NC, and San Antonio, TX) credible, quality, and lab-tested cannabidiol products.

We offer all of the product categories both in store and online, products like our Mary Jane’s CBD oil, pain creams, edibles, flowers, and much more.
