How CBD and THC Work Together

The hemp plant (well, and marijuana) contains over a hundred different chemical compounds called cannabinoids.

Among these compounds, two are prominent – Cannabidiol (CBD) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).

Several research suggests these compounds may offer a range of therapeutic effects when used independently.

What’s more?

Several other studies say the compounds offer more potency when used together; a result popularly called the ‘entourage effect.’

The entourage effect concept explains the collaborative result when users consume a combination of chemicals in the hemp plant – including cannabinoids and some good traces of terpenoids and terpenes. Such effects, users say, surpasses what’s obtainable from any single compound.

What Researchers Suggest

Researchers have sampled several help conditions to test the entourage effect.

For instance, a British Journal of Pharmacology research publication shows that phytocannabinoids and terpenes, in synergy, may offer better results for conditions, including anxiety, epilepsy, pain, cancer, inflammation, a fungal infection.

Quickly, let’s discuss what some researchers found:

  • CBD and THC may relieve cancer-related pains

A 2010 study that compared a THC-CBD product to a THC-only alternative in handling cancer-related pain. The THC+CBD product was found to deliver higher effects thins THC-only for cancerous pain.

  • CBD and THC for Drug-resistant Epilepsy

A 2018 review assessed the effects of a pure CBD Vs. a CBD-dominant marijuana extract in handling severe epilepsy. The research authors conclude that high-CBD products offered greater improvement, and, surprisingly, with less adverse reactions compared to CBD-only doses.

The researchers link the synergetic effect to the interaction of CBD with other phytocannabinoids.

Again, THC-CBD products may allow more people to enjoy the therapeutic properties of Cannabis

THC is widely known for its euphoric effects. While some seek the intoxicating property, others only desire the therapeutic promises, without the brain-hitting effects. This makes CBD important.

Research says CBD can counteract THC’s psychoactive nature. With its negligible side effects, health seekers can explore the safe and no-high twist of marijuana’s therapeutic offers.

These are, but a few of several other studies point to the high-benefit low-side effect angle of THC-CBD products.

Does CBD still work without THC?

Yes, it does.

Many people are THC-intolerant. While they desire hemp’s therapeutic promises, they can’t stand THC. If you can relate, no worries – research shows CBD can be therapeutic independently.

If you wish to give CBD a try but without THC, prefer CBD isolate over full-spectrum CBD products.

For clarity, while isolates contain over 99 percent CBD-only concentration, the full spectrum comes with THC and all other components in the marijuana plant.

By the Farm Bill, CBD products may not exceed .3 percent THC concentrations, which is considered grossly insignificant to cause a high. But, remember this trace THC amounts can add up to ruin your drug test.

Final Words

While research is still in its infancy, some results so far suggest CBD may counteract some of THC’s psychoactive properties.

Most research suggests CBD works synergistically with THC – never in conflict – presenting a more desirable experience.

That said, further research is needed to tell the exact relationship between these compounds, as well as the workings of the entourage effects.
