How Many MG of CBD Can I Take?

Cannabidiol comes in different dosage forms, including tinctures, creams, pills, capsules, etc.

Doses are typically recommended based on the product’s form, CBD concentration, users’ biological differences, and the peculiarity of their conditions.

While we expect further research to give science-approved dosages for different conditions, results from ongoing research and anecdotal evidence suggest some safe dosage range.

Before we discuss how many MG of CBD you should take, let’s define CBD quickly.

What is CBD?

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a non-intoxicating chemical found in the hemp plant. The compound is widely known to manage symptoms of different health conditions, including pain, inflammation, insomnia, anxiety, depression, to mention a few.

Results from ongoing research look promising, so much that some experts argue CBD may become the next big thing in contemporary medicine. CBD is touted safe, widely tolerated, effective, and completely natural.

The compound comes with little or no side effects as experienced with conventional pharmaceuticals.

Study shows that CBD remains safe even in large doses. But still, moderate consumption is commonly advised.

What then is considered moderate when dosing CBD?

Till now, there’s only one FDA-recognized CBD prescription, Epidiolex – a CBD-infused drug formulated to treat two rare forms of epilepsy ( Lennox Gastaut and Dravet Syndromes) in children.

However, Research authors have experimented with different oral dosages, from 100 mg to 800 mg daily. Some use as high as 1200mg daily.

A study on CBD for schizophrenia found an improvement in the subjects after increasing doses of 40 to 1289mg of CBD daily for four weeks.

Based on publications, scientific research, expert opinion, and users experience, here are recommended doses for different health conditions

  • Chronic pain – 3 mg to 20 mg of CBD dosed orally
  • Epilepsy 200 to 300mg dosed orally
  • Mobility concerns caused by Huntington’s disease – 10mg for each kg of body weight (orally) every day for 6 weeks.
  • Insomnia – 30 mg to 160 mg dosed orally.
  • Glaucoma – 20 to 40 mg dosed sublingually. Doses exceeding 40mg may cause high pressure.
  • Schizophrenia – 40 to 1,280mg orally daily.

Fact is, doctors are not sure which dosage you should take for health concerns outside these specified conditions.

So, while we await a universal dosage, the recommendations above may offer the desired therapeutic effects without any significant adverse reaction.

That said, since CBD is safe, well-tolerated, and non-intoxicating, you can, in a pinch, do personal experiments and see what works for you.

However, it is best to discuss with your local health care provider before you begin your CBD doses.
