5 Common Misconceptions about CBD

by Matt Meyer September 25, 2020

Practically every passing day comes with new knowledge about CBD. From viral Facebook stories to TV documentaries, there’s so much info out there about CBD.

You probably think you already know everything there is about CBD oil. But what if some of the facts you know about CBD are but misconceptions?

Most of the information flying around about CBD is not exactly what it is. TO correct the increasing lies about CBD, this article reveals five common misconceptions about CBD.

Let’s quickly discuss them…

1.  CBD Is Not Psychoactive

Here’s the most widespread CBD misconception. Although CBD is not intoxicating, it is psychoactive. CBD contains properties that slightly alter one’s mind to offer relief from depression, anxiety, and, in turn, boost sleep, etc.

So, while CBD may not be as psychoactive as THC, it is most accurate to say CBD is non-intoxicating.

2.  CBD Is for Adults Only

Wrong. CBD is regarded as safe and widely tolerated. The misconception that CBD is specially for adults is built on another misconception that since CBD is cannabis-related, as with marijuana across most regions, the compound should be for adults only.

That said, CBD isn’t only good for all humans – adults and children alike – they are becoming a common recommendation for veterinary uses.

In fact, so far, Epidiolex is the only FDA-approved CBD product. Interestingly, the prescription drug is formulated for children with two rare forms of epilepsy – Dravet syndrome and Lennox Gastaut Syndrome.

3.  CBD Is The Good Compound, THC Is The Bad Guy

This conception is perhaps built from the fact that THC-dominant marijuana remains illegal in most parts of the world, while CBD increases legal leniency.

The fact is, as CBD offers a truckload of health gains, so does THC. But for its psychoactive nature, research shows THC may help handle symptoms relating to cancer, pain, etc.

4.  CBD is Better Than THC

No such thing. No one has superiority over the other, as they both have peculiar applications. In fact, research shows CBD may offer higher potency when used alongside THC.

Also, while CBD is a favorite among those who seek the therapeutic potentials of cannabis without the high, THC is widely loved by recreational users.

5.  CBD Can Ruin Your Drug Test

Not exactly. Most drug tests are run to detect THC – the high-causing compound in cannabis. CBD is non-intoxicating and, hence, does not attract many regulations.

However, although CBD isolates won’t show up on your drug test, full-spectrum oil users may come out dirty. So, if you have a low tolerance for THC, prefer CBD isolate, which is CBD-only, or broad-spectrum, which contains all other compounds in marijuana, save THC.
