CBD for Pain

October 07, 2020

Among all purported CBD potentials, CBD for pain is arguably the most widespread.

Before you consider CBD for your pain, this guide will help you understand:

  • How [if at all] CBD works for pain
  • Its possible side effects
  • Legality concerns
  • Its intoxicating tendencies
  • And more

But, before we dig in…

What is CBD?

CBD is one of the active compounds in the hemp plant.

While the plant contains over a hundred cannabinoids (chemical compounds), CBD and THC are predominant and, hence, the most celebrated.

But, even with their near-similar therapeutic potencies, CBD has gained more widespread recognition in the medical scene and crossed more legal hurdles than its THC relative – Chiefly because of its non-intoxicating nature.

While THC is the compound responsible for the high associated with cannabis usage, CBD won’t get you stoned regardless of dosage.  So, if getting ‘high’ scares from using CBD for pains, no more worries. Pure CBD will NEVER get you high.

Is CBD for Pain Effective?

Records indicate hemp for pain has been a thing since ancient times. Lately, conventional medicine has encouraged several researches on how hemp – particularly CBD – works for pain.

As research progresses, the evidence so far suggests CBD’s potency in handling specific pain-related concerns, including:

  • Arthritis Pain

An animal-based research article shows CBD may alleviate arthritis-related pain. The authors applied CBD-infused topical gel to arthritic rats for four days.

The result shows a notable reduction in pain and inflammation without any significant adverse effect.

While CBD oil for pain may help arthritis patients handle pain symptoms, more human studies are needed to validate existing evidence.

  • Multiple Sclerosis

Muscle spasms are typical symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis – an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and nerves.

This condition leaves patients with acute and chronic pain.

A study review suggests short term CBD use may reduce the spasticity levels MS patients feel.

While the effects are relatively minor, anecdotal evidence shows a modest reduction in related symptoms.

Again, more human-based scientific data is needed.

  • Chronic Pain

The research for MS also considered CBD for chronic pain. The authors review several trials and studies and conclude that hemp compounds may help handle chronic pain in adults.

Another study shows that CBD can help reduce inflammation and pain.

The authors believe the research participants were unlikely to develop CBD tolerance, hence no need for increased dosage overtime.

They concluded that CBD – and other cannabinoids – may help for persons with chronic pain.

CBD for Pain Dosage

CBD is widely unregulated. Hence, CBD for pain dosage is widely open for interpretation; therefore, they should be consumed cautiously.

Before you administer CBD, do well to discuss it with your physician. They’ll help you make a more personalized dosage option and provide other safety advice.

Any Side Effects?

CBD is safe and widely tolerated. However, some possible effects include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss or weight gain
  • Changes in appetite

Note also that drug-to-drug interaction is possible with CBD. Hence, discuss with your healthcare provider before proceeding with CBD – particularly if you’re currently on another prescription drug.

Is CBD Oil Legal?

Yeah, widely so.

In the US, CBD is legal under federal law. According to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp plant with not more than .3 percent THC is considered hemp and hence legal. Anything above this THC benchmark is considered marijuana, and thus, illegal.

Wrap Up

Although CBD for pain results look promising, there’s a lot more to find out about CBD effects and possible long-term effects.

Records say hemp has been a mainstay of ancient medicine, particularly for pain-related concerns. Contemporary research and anecdotal evidence have, to a large extent, shown CBD’s possible role in the results.

Cooking with CBD

November 20, 2020

The motivation for this write up came from one of the questions I receive regularly from readers. The person asked; “Can I cook with CBD oil?”

At first, I laughed really hard but on second thought, I reasoned that not only is the question a valid one, but there are plenty of others who might be thinking the same. I needed to write about it!

You see CBD oil is quite unlike most oils you must have tried in your cooking experiments. While it is possible to cook with CBD, there are a few rules to follow to achieve the best results and I have outlined them below.
