CBD Won't Make You High, But it Should Make You Happy

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid in the hemp plant. Unlike its fellow constituent THC, CBD products would not make you high but it can influence your mood. CBD can influence your mood positively, causing you to feel better about yourself and the happenings around you.

But, how does it do it?

Several studies have identified some points of impacts where CBD interacts with the body system to affect it in ways that are beneficial to you. CBD is perceived to regulate the Serotonin and Adenosine receptors (responsible for mood) and in turn, enable them to alleviate stress, calm the mind, and improve cognitive functions. New studies also tie CBD influenced neurogenesis to an improvement in mood and mental health.

The Mood Receptors

Serotonin and Adenosine are both vital in the management of the mood of an individual. The receptors interact with other neurotransmitters and the nervous system to affect your mood positively.

Researchers found remarkable decrease in serotonin levels of individuals suffering from depression and mood swings, and they opine that an increase in serotonin levels would cause an elevation in moods (the basis of most depression medication). Adenosine on the other hand is partly responsible for sleep. Most people with depressed moods also suffer from some form of sleep disorders. Increasing the levels of Adenosine would create calm in your body and mind, and cause you to fall into restful sleep.

The Impact of Neurogenesis

New studies suggest that the old knowledge of serotonin levels affecting moods may not be entirely correct. Scientists discovered that while decreased serotonin levels were consistent in depressive patients, not all depressive conditions are caused by a decrease in serotonin. Researchers found that rather increased serotonin; influencing neurogenesis can have far greater impact with the long-term management of depression and associated conditions.

CBD's Influence

In many ways than one, CBD influences the regeneration of new brain cells in humans. Several bodies of research support this claim as researchers have been able to draw direct connections between brain health and CBD.

CBD interacts with the Endocannabinoid system (ECS), supporting it to perform its function of homeostasis. The ECS controls and regulates bodily functions and responses, and corrects any imbalance noticed in the body. When your brain starts to suffer from degeneration, the ECS is able to reverse the damage and return the brain, brain receptors and neurotransmitters back to optimal states.

Wrap Up

With good mental health, a calmer mind and a steadier disposition, there is no way you will not experience a balanced and elevated mood. If you or your loved ones are consistently experiencing depressive symptoms, you can benefit from CBD.
