St Rose of Lima Catholic Church | 9883 Marbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78245, United States
On September 29, 1981, Archbishop Patrick F. Flores, DD, established Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church as a parish (born 26 Jul 1929, died 9 Jan 2017). The western sections of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church were taken to form the parish. Monsignor Kevin Ryan was selected as the parish’s first pastor and served from 1981 to 1991. The parish purchased 10.3 acres of land in February 1982 to use as a future development site. Initially, meetings were held at the “Pete and Bernice Pavilion,” but after five years, an old barracks structure was purchased and used as a worship area. The current Parish Hall was erected in 1987 and is used as a gathering and worship area.
The parish began with only 350 families and has now grown to well over two thousand, with no indications of slowing down. In 1997, a Religious Education Center was built with 16 classrooms and an office to accommodate the thousands of youngsters enrolled in religious education. The current church, which is one of the largest in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, was dedicated on December 4, 2005 by Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, STD.
