History

The recommendations of the Base Realignment and Closing Commission (BRAC) were accepted and signed in the law on 9 November 2005 by President George W. Bush.  The introduction of a Joint Basis was one of the recommendations. A single entity managing two or more adjacent Defense Department facilities was part of the joint foundation.  Combined support functions, the commission believed, removed double actions and created a more effective agency. The Commission proposed a shared structure for San Antonio for the city-wide three military installations: Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB and Randolph AFB.

In expectation of JBSA’s achievement of Initial Operational Capability (IOC), the wing slowly developed its workforce in the coming months when collaborating with the support functions at Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB and Randolph AFB.  The 502d ABW was in charge of the support mission when IOC occurred. As from the 37th Training Wing and 12th Flying Training Wing respectively, the 502d ABW became the hosts at Lackland and Randolph on 31 January 2010 and the wings became the host of Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis in nW BeXAR County on 30 April 2010.

Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA)

A United States Air Force 502D Air Base Wing, Air Education and Training Command (AETC), which is located in San Antonio, Texase, USA. The three wing mission support groups carry out the supporting installation in the three bases of the JBSA. In line with congressional legislation implementing the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations, JBSA was established. The law required the three neighboring military facilities to be combined into a single common base, one out of the 12 defined by legislation in the United States.

The San Antonio Joint Base employs 80,000 employees and helps students of up to 138,000 in three sites every year. As the largest single DD facility / business, it has a cumulative plant replacement value of nearly 10.3 billion; leads a workforce of more than eight thousand people; administers an annual budget of 800 million people; integrates 1,000 San Antonio city officials; 20 smaller communities, 4 counties and four congressional districts and serves more than 200 community partners.

JBSA is the main Joint Base in San Antonio and consisting of Sam Houston, JBSA-Lackland and JBSA-Landolph. Sam Antonio is the oldest Joint Base of the United States. JBSA units focus mainly on teaching, driving, medical, cyber security and information. Each JBSA facility has suitable accommodation and highly rated schools (not DoDEA), but a long waiting list still exists for housing that deprives immigrants of livelihoods. Stationed at a JBSA facility could also provide opportunities for a follow-up at a different area base. It is wise to get an idea of a potential career path and to choose where to live on future commutes.

San Antonio is home to a large number of military bases that serve to protect our country.  Here is a short list of some of them:
