History

Johnny Morris, the founder and CEO of Bass Pro Shops, designed Big Cypress Lodge to bring the outdoors in and connect people with their love for nature.

People often ask, “Why put a Bass Pro Shops inside of a pyramid?” Well, it all came down to one really big catfish…

Johnny Morris went fishing along the Mississippi River in 2005. He set out with a couple of his fishing buddies; the popular angler and TV show host, Bill Dance, and Jack Emmitt, the first fishing manager for Bass Pro. When they got near the Pyramid of Memphis, Johnny looked up and told them that if they caught a 30-pound catfish, he would build a store inside.

Sure enough, with just about an hour to go, his pal, Jack, got a bite and reeled in a monster catfish in the Pyramid ‘s shadow. Without much hesitation, Johnny said, “It’s a deal, we’re gonna do it.”

Bass Pro Shops and Big Cypress Lodge opened within the Memphis Pyramid in 2015, following a thorough renovation. We hope you appreciate all the Pyramid has to offer and leave here with a few stories to share about our own “big fish.”

Big Cypress Lodge offers a complimentary vehicle service that runs on the weekends starting June 5, hours of operation are:

Monday – Friday: 5:00PM – 10:00PM

Saturday: 9:00AM – 10:00PM

Sunday: 9:00AM – 5:00PM

The hotel vehicle will operate within the resort ‘s downtown radius. Visit the front desk to use the shuttle, and a driver will be called by an associate. The driver will give you a card with a phone number to order a pick-up later after you have dropped off at your destination.

Complimentary internet access is included with your stay. Hotel guests have access to wifi throughout the Pyramid. Find login information in your check-in packet.

• 24-Hour Fitness Center   

Their fitness center, located at level three, is open 24 hours a day to give you everything you need for a demanding workout.

Their business center, situated on the third floor, provides a comfortable place to work with free computer access.

Guests have access to unlimited free tickets to ride the highest free-standing elevator in the nation to the top of the Pyramid. At The Overlook, enjoy dinner and drinks and take in the views from the Glass Observation Deck to downtown Memphis , Tennessee.

• Third-Floor Lobby and Bar Area   

The Lobby Bar is open from 5:00 PM-10:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Visit our lobby room, situated on the third floor, complete with a full-service kitchen, cosy fireplace and comfortable seating.
