Shelby Farms Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country at 4.500 acres. Located in Memphis , Tennessee, the Park is both a lively cultural center and a retreat from the bustle and bustle of urban life.

Shelby Farms Park has more than 40 miles of paved and unpaved trails that are popular for walking , biking, running and hiking. The Park’s trail network includes Shelby Farms Greenline, an emblematic 10.65-mile paved bike and pedestrian trail that links the heart of Memphis to the heart of Cordova via Shelby Farms Park.
The Park is home to more than 20 bodies of water that provide a wide variety of fishing opportunities. It’s home to a herd of buffalo, too. Kids will play and explore all kinds of fun at the award-winning Forest Discovery Playground and splash on the Water Play Sprayground.
Try horseback riding, treetop adventures, or play a paintball or laser tag game for more unique adventures. It’s also fun to have four-legged mates! Dogs are welcome to explore the Park’s trails (on-leash, leash in hand at all times) and visit The Outback for off-leash fun. If you have an appetite, take a quick snack at the Lake’s Edge Gift Shop or head to one of the local restaurants in the Park.
Shelby Farms Park is a special location and a perfect setting for special events! Indoor and outdoor venues are available for meetings, picnics, gatherings, parties, galas, weddings and more. Your rental fees finance the running of the Park.
Shelby Farms Park is a people-powered park — more than 80 percent of the Park’s $5.2 million operating budget comes from contributions and profits! Shelby Farms Park and Greenline are owned and run by Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your donation will help keep the Park and Greenline clean, green, accessible, and healthy for the whole community. The Park and Greenline are accessible from sunrise to sunset, 365 days a year.
Shelby Farms Park is a popular place for pups. Dogs must be on-leash, leash in hand at all times in the Park and on the Greenline, including unpaved forest trails. Local leash laws apply. However, The Outback features more than 100 acres that are designated for off-leash fun for you and your pup.
Outback is a multi-purpose area that provides more than 100 acres of open fields, ponds and unpaved trails for off-leash fun! You’re going to see bikers, hikers, horses, runners, anglers and other off-leash dogs while you’re there. Gates 11 , 12 and 13 are located on Trinity Road and Raleigh-Lagrange Road on the northeast side of the Park.
Shelby Farms Park is home to a thriving buffalo herd. There are normally about 15 buffaloes walking around the Park every year — the number of buffaloes fluctuates as calves are born every spring. The herd wanders on its own in an area of almost 50 acres, full of native grass , trees and sunny fields.
Park Rangers and big animal veterinarians are responsible for the herd. This hard-working team ensures that the herd ‘s diet is naturally complemented and taken care of every day.
