The Buckhorn Saloon & Museum is a private museum located at 318 E. Houston Street in downtown San Antonio, Texas, U.S. Originally privately owned by Albert Friedrich, Buckhorn has become a tourist attraction for its exclusive collections. Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders were considered to have frequented the establishment. Housed in 1956 in the Lone Star Brewery, the collection passed to Friedrich’s descendants, who had moved it to its present location.

 The Buckhorn Saloon has been known for over 131 years as a meeting place for good conversation, great food and impressive wildlife exhibits. Today, the salon holds the Café, the Gift Shop, the Shooting Gallery and our two museums, the Buckhorn Museum and the Texas Ranger Museum.

• Museum

The Buckhorn Museum exhibits specimens from all over the world, including seven-sea sharks, species from every continent, and strange animal features that have been preserved for over 100 years! Our display halls are made up of over 520 species of wildlife— many of which are record holders. The Buckhorn’s most prominent record holder is the famous’ 78 Point Buck.’ 

The incredible rack was sold back in 1890 to the saloon owner himself, Albert Friedrich, for just $100.  Many remarkable finds include a record 1,056 pounds of black marlin and a 10,000 year old prehistoric Irish elk. In 2006, the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum expanded again with the addition of the Texas Ranger Museum to the attraction. 

The Texas Ranger Museum houses hundreds of authentic Texas Ranger items including automatic handguns, shotguns, badges and more. The museum also houses a reconstruction of San Antonio at the turn of the century in the town of Ranger. The town features a replica of the Buckhorn Saloon, a prison cell, a blacksmith and a replica of the 1934 Ford V8 Deluxe— the iconic Bonnie & Clyde getaway car. The Buckhorn Saloon and Museum has been in operation for more than a century, and with the continuity and growth of the Buckhorn Museum, it will continue to entertain the patrons for generations to come.

• Saloon

The Buckhorn Saloon is where it all started — where history was made and tradition lives. It’s where Teddy Roosevelt trained Rough Riders, and Pancho Villa is said to have organized the Mexican Revolution. Many of the original furniture still adorns today’s Buckhorn Saloon, including the back bar, made from marble and cherry wood. The bar features 7 locally brewed beers, including Shiner Bock, Lone Star, Alamo Beer and 4 seasonal Real Ale craft beers. You might as well like one of our tasty and icy Prickly Pear Margaritas; it’s a favorite of the ladies!
