Ripley believes it or not! It’s an American franchise, created by Robert Ripley, which deals with weird events and things so odd and unusual that readers may doubt the claims. Originally a newspaper column, the Cree It or Not feature, proved popular and was later adapted to a wide variety of formats, including radio, television, comic books, a chain of museums, and a series of books.
The Ripley collection includes 20,000 objects, 30,000 items and over 100,000 cartoon scenes. With its 80-plus attractions, Orlando-based Ripley Entertainment, Inc., a subsidiary of Jim Pattison Group, is a global company with an estimated attendance of more than 12 million visitors. Publishing and broadcasting divisions of Ripley Entertainment manage a number of projects, including the syndicated TV series, the newspaper cartoon group, comics, posters and games.
There are 32 Ripley’s Believe It or Not as of December 2010. Odditoriums all over the country. Odditoriums, whether you believe it or not! These are often more than mere museums cluttered with curiosities. Some include theaters and arcades, such as those in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Others are constructed oddly, such as the Orlando, Florida Odditorium, which is built off-level as if the house was sinking. The first Odditorium in the Netherlands, on Dam Square in Amsterdam, is expected to open in summer 2016.
