The Aviation Museum, the Air Museum or the Aerospace Museum is a museum showing the past and objects of aviation. In addition to the actual, replica or accurate reproduction of aircraft, exhibits may include photos, charts, models, dioramas, clothing and equipment used by aviators. 

Aviation museums vary in size from one or two aircraft to hundreds. These may be owned or privately owned by state, regional or local governments. Several museums also deal with the history and objects of space exploration, demonstrating the close relationship between aeronautics and astronautics.

The Texas Air Museum

Most aeronautical museums concentrate on military or civil aviation, or aviation history of a particular era, such as early aviation or the continuation of the Golden Age between the World Wars, World War II aircraft, or a specific type of aviation, such as gliding The Texas Air Museum is a dedicated group of volunteers devoted to documenting, preserving and sharing the history of military aviation. From retelling the tales of past military aviators to flying and preserving the many airworthy displays in the Museum, the members of the Texas Air Museum also provide valuable services to teach future generations about the experiences and achievements of the pioneers that helped bring aviation to where it is today. The Museum’s dedicated volunteers range from 11 to 83 years of age.

History 

Established in 1915 when the Stinson family first leased land from the City of San Antonio, Stinson Municipal Airport is the second oldest general aviation airport in continuous operation in the United States (after College Park Airport). The Works Progress Administration built a terminal building between 1935 and 1936. The house was remodeled and extended in 2006-2008, but still maintains much of its original integrity. Throughout World War II, the airfield was used as a training base by the United States Army Air Forces. At the end of the war, the airfield was returned to the City of San Antonio for civilian use. As a relief company for San Antonio International, the airport has an FBO, three flight schools, a police and state aviation unit, a part 135 operator, two aerial photography vehicles, a helicopter tour company and a helicopter flight school, and a variety of general aviation aircraft. It’s also home to the Texas Air Museum. The historic terminal was upgraded in 2006-2008 and the 9-27 runway reopened on 11 March 2010 after being resurfaced and extended to 5002 feet, for more private and commercial jet traffic. In August 2010, the Texas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol announced that it would relocate its regional headquarters to Stinson Municipal Airport. It was only in Stinson for a few years before it relocated to its current location.
