The Far West Side is one of the fastest growing areas in the San Antonio metropolitan area. A significant part of this area is outside the city limits of San Antonio, but it is served by the government of Bexar County. Here you can find SeaWorld San Antonio, Northwest Vista College, QVC, Wells Fargo, Coventry Health Care, CitiCorp and a number of other major employers. The Far Northwest/West subdivisions draw many military families who have relocated from all over the US due to their proximity to the Lackland AFB. With new homes starting in the low to mid 100's, the area attracts many middle-class families and first-time homebuyers. Major roads include Loop 1604, U.S. State Highway 151. Highway 90, Loop 410. Due to the recent housing boom in the area, Christus Santa Rosa Westover Hills Hospital, numerous businesses, including Kohl's, HEB Plus and Super Wal-mart, have moved to the new districts of Westover Hills and Alamo Ranch, as well as many restaurant chains and other specialty stores.
The Far West Side is blessed with an abundance of fun attractions for residents and visitors to enjoy. Here’s a short list of our favorites:
The Government Canyon State Natural Area (GCSNA) was first opened to the public in October 2005 and preserves 12,244 acres (49.5 km2; 19.1 sq mi) of rugged hills and canyons typical of Texas Hill Country. It is designated a Natural Area rather than a State Park, and therefore the main focus is on the maintenance and protection of the natural state of the property. Access and recreation activities may therefore be restricted if the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) considers such action necessary to protect the environment.

Residents of the Far West Side are blessed to live in an area full of nature while also being quite close to city life. There is never a shortage of coffee shops, parks or shopping centers to enjoy within a five-minute drive of the Far West Side. Residents are also able to enjoy a rich spiritual life at the following houses of worship:
Alamo Ranch Community Church exists to be a Church which glorifies God by making disciples whose identity and joy are found and rooted in the Gospel of Jesus. They believe that Scripture is the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God, so that Scripture is their final authority in all matters of life and faith. Their preaching is expository and exegetical, meaning that the books of the Bible are preached through and explained as we seek to better know God as He is revealed through the Scriptures.
Village Parkway Baptist Church is a missionary church that seeks to communicate the message of love and forgiveness of God through relevant preaching and teaching. They hope that you will join them in worship and connect with one of their small groups or Sunday School classes as they seek to make the message of Jesus Christ known to the whole world.
Calvary Hills Baptist Church meets at the 1604 Loop West of San Antonio, Texas. If you're looking for a church where the gospel is proclaimed weekly and the scriptures are taught, you'll love the Calvary Hills Baptist Church. They have existed as the Southern Baptist Church since 1986, and they plan to continue to exalt the name of Jesus Christ until He returns.
Their vision is a simple description of what they are trying to look like. It is aspiring, but also realistic, to the unique culture of their church. They believe that these three statements must be true of their church in order to effectively carry out the mission of God in the world. Their mission is their responsibility to those who are outside the faith. They must constantly deny their tendency to turn inward and lose sight of those in need of the Gospel. This is what drives them to take action, and also how they define their mission strategy.
From a few people gathered in a ranch house in the woods northwest of San Antonio, now in the heart of the suburbs, Northwest Hills shared the life-changing power of Christ with all who seek Him. Seekers ask questions, believers dig deeper, those in need find help, lonely friends and spectators discover the fulfillment of serving others. There is a place for you!
While the church is young in years, it has a deep connection with the Presbyterian tradition and a denominational relationship with the Cumberland and the Presbyterian (USA) denominations. Some of the founding members of the church are still part of their congregation, but many of their members have come to their families through military assignments or work transfers, making them a racially and culturally diverse family. They would love you to join their family. Come on as a visitor for the first time and come back as a friend.
