About the Grahamwood Neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee

Grahamwood is a historic Memphis neighborhood with many beautiful old homes. The area was home to many prominent Memphians such as James Kirkland, founder of the Kirkland School for Girls and president of Southwestern at Memphis, and Dr. William H. McAlpin, who served on the board of directors for Methodist Hospital from 1934-1951. Today it's a quiet residential neighborhood with about 400 residents that's filled with history and charm!

Grahamwood is located on the eastern edge of Memphis, stretching from Winchester Avenue south to East Parkway North. The boundaries are Winrock Boulevard on the west, Lauderdale Street on the north, Donaldson Avenue on the east and Elam Road - which used to be called Sam Cooper Street - is its southern border. The area was established in 1941 as part of an effort by a group of white businessmen who wanted to provide housing for black people who were barred from living anywhere else due to segregation laws.

What you’ll love most about Grahamwood is its diversity in architecture--you'll find everything from Tudor Revival to Prairie Style homes throughout this little gem of a community. It also has an amazing sense of community among its neighbors which is something you don't often see in larger cities anymore!

Things to Do in Grahamwood

Grahamwood offers visitors plenty to do. There are cultural events, culinary experiences, and more. Visitors can find many specialty shops in Grahamwood such as art galleries, restaurants, clothing stores, and antique shops. The homes located in this neighborhood date back to the 1800s with some older than 100 years old!  If you're looking for things to do near downtown Memphis then we’ve listed a few of our favorites:

Memphis is a city known for its rich culture and music. One of the most iconic places in the city is Beale Street, an area with lots to do and see. With five blocks of blues clubs, you're sure to find something that suits your taste- whether it be live or recorded music, food, drinks, shopping or just people watching on a busy night out on the town. You can even take tours through different parts of Memphis while learning about American history!

Beale Street has been around since 1866. It's one of the most famous streets in the United States because it was where many blues musicians performed and recorded their music. The Blues Hall of Fame is also located on Beale Street which celebrates the history of this genre of music.

The Arcade Restaurant is an old diner that has been around for almost 100 years. It opened in 1919 after a family immigrant from Cephalonia Greece, who changed his name to Speros Zepatos when he arrived and came up with the idea of opening it as soon as he set foot on US soil. The original building was small- only one story high and made out of wood framing! Food used potbelly stoves that cooked everything fresh!

As they move into the next one hundred years, third generation owners Harry and Karan Zepatos have handed over the keys to their fourth-generation offspring! They've reintroduced evening service with new drinks and menu items--all while preserving old time charm. For example: The glowing neon signs may transport you back in time but your taste buds will enjoy pesto pizza that's delicious for a present palate!

The Memphis Zoo is home to many rare and exotic creatures. The zoo also features different ecosystems that mimic their natural habitats, so visitors can see what it’s like for the animals where they live- all without having to travel abroad!

You can't help but be fascinated at the Memphis Zoo. It's a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with all sorts of creatures from around the world, some you may never have even seen before in person! You'll find yourself exploring different habitats that mimic their natural environments as well, which is pretty cool for those who love animals or just enjoy being surrounded by adorable penguins.

Located in the heart of downtown Memphis, The Orpheum Theatre is one of the most prestigious and longest-running theaters in Tennessee. It’s not just a theater though; you can catch all sorts from classical ballets to international jazz festivals at this venue!

Located right on Beale Street among some other noteworthy landmarks like WMCN Channel 3 Studios and Graceland Landings Apartments, it's no wonder why locals refer to this theatre as "The Crown Jewel." Originally known for its stage performances during vaudeville days (1907), today shows such as Hamilton are still running strong.

The Orpheum Theatre is haunted by a little girl who's been watching over the artists and patrons since 1922. People from all around come to Memphis just for readings of energy levels in this theater that, strangely enough, only seems to be active on Thursdays at noon.

In the mid 2000s, their founders were looking to launch a business with the vision of giving back. They stumbled upon what they now know as Go Ape USA and formed a partnership just outside of Frederick, Maryland in Rockville. The very first course was built there and from that point on it's only grown more rapidly than any other company this size has ever seen before!

With the Go Ape Zip Line and Treetop Adventure, you can escape from the concrete jungle to experience nature in its purest form. As one of Memphis’ most popular tourist destinations, there are many high-flying activities for visitors looking to get their blood pumping with exhilaration! Provided with an instructor who will guide through basic skills like using pulleys and harnesses before giving free reign throughout Shelby Forest trees as a participant goes “ape” on our ziplines at speeds that leave them breathless.

It doesn't matter how adventurous-minded or high maintenance one might be - this Zip Line experience has something everyone would enjoy doing with its fast speeds and exhilarating sensation.

It was the first African American congregation to be established on Macon Street and it now stands as one of the oldest churches in Memphis, TN. The members are proud of their legacy and they have made it their mission to uphold this tradition by providing an inclusive worship environment for all people- no matter what religion you may follow or even if your beliefs don't align with any particular faith at all!

The Ellis Grove Baptist Church offers a variety of community outreach programs that are aimed at helping people in need, providing care and compassion to the elderly citizens. The United Methodist Church is a worldwide connection of more than 12 million members in Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States. They are connected to each other by their shared values as disciples of Jesus Christ. The church's mission can be found right next door or on the opposite side across country where they preach God's love through what they say and how they serve others without discrimination- this legacy has been passed down from generation to generation for over 160 years!

Iglesia Bella Vista offers a variety of services for people of all ages and backgrounds including Sunday worship service, Bible study, prayer groups as well as counseling services.  In addition to this they also have an after school program called the "Bella Vista Kids Club" which provides kids with tutoring and enrichment activities during the day while their parents are working or studying.

After discovering the truth behind their faith, members of Coleman Avenue Church of Christ have made a vow to uphold Jesus's teachings. They believe that every Christian today owes allegiance and confession to Him; not any teacher who has arisen in this time period with mere man's doctrines.

To remain true to God they speak only where He speaks through His word, remaining silent when there is silence throughout scripture on an issue or topic at hand. In order for them to be practicing New Testament Christianity without deviation from modern theology it is mandatory that congregants call Bible things by Bible names and do these actions in ways described within Scripture.
