Chickasaw Trail is a 4.5 km long loop trail located near Cordova, Tennessee, which features a lake and is good for all ability levels. The trail provides a variety of activities and is best used from January to November. Dogs are also allowed to use this trail, but they must be kept on leash.
The scale of Shelby Farms Park (4500 acres and over 10 miles of trails) and its central position in Memphis allow for a number of uses. With more than one million visitors a year the Park is a popular destination for locals, a regional attraction and a tourist attraction.
This trail is paved and passes through a number of lakes... perfect for a gentle bike ride or a stroll.
Accessibility: The surface of the trail is paved with asphalt and is normally at least six feet deep. The grade is generally mild with a few fairly steep sections. The steepest section is 9 percent, 0.5 miles in the clockwise direction (north).
In Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park (also known as Shelby Forest), elevations can be found on the Chickasaw Bluff Trail, the Woodland Trail, the Pioneer Springs and the Horse Trails. 13 miles north of Memphis, this state park occupies over 12,000 acres of land surrounding the Mississippi River. The longest loop—the Horse Trail (which is open to horses and hikers)—is on a bluff overlooking the 100-acre Poplar Tree Lake. Trail maps are available in the Visitor Center. In addition to hiking, the park offers a 36-hole disk golf course, 49 campsites and six two-bedroom cabins for rent.
Length of hiking: Chickasaw Bluff (3.5 miles one-way), Pioneer Springs (2.5 miles one-way), Woods (3.1 miles loop), Horse (8 miles loops)
Permitted pets: dogs, horses (on Horse Trails)
Open: year round. The visitor center is open every day, 7 a.m. At 7 p.m. The Nature Center is open on Memorial Day for Labor Day, Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. To five o'clock. Horse Trails will be closed during rainy and inclement weather.
