Dog Parks in Memphis, Tennessee – The Barking Lot Dog Park | Memphis (Summer Avenue) Smoke and Vape Shop

75 Jefferson Ave, Memphis, TN 38103, United States

The Barking Lot dog park, sponsored by the Downtown Memphis Commission and the owners of the house, is more than just a place to get your pooch off the leash. The pop-up park is also an art park and has a dedicated food truck parking area, so there’s plenty to do when your canine plays with other dogs.

The dog park is built on what was a long gaping hole in downtown Memphis, the site of a house that burned down a few years ago. The hole was fenced in, filled with dirt and covered with sod and a mulch area shaped like a dog’s bone. You’re going to find the benches where you can relax and socialize.

Often places get 5 stars because of the demand / need in the city, no matter if they have a bunch of whistles and bells. That’s just what the Barking Lot is, it’s just a little dog park. The beauty about it is that it’s downtown where practically no one has any backyard space, so getting your four legged friend to run around somewhere is great. This is particularly true when it’s 20 degrees out and you want to put your energy into keeping warm and drinking hot chocolate instead of walking your dog.

It’s also still filled with poop scoop bags and has a nearby trash can. Typically no one is here (maybe busier in the spring), but the few people, small and large dogs there are usually extremely sweet. There are also two benches for dog owners to sit while their furry friends are running around, and it’s well lit at night.

It’s a perfect place to give large and small dogs a bath break in hot summer months and handy potty bags are available for cleaning. The Barking Lot features a separate parking spot devoted to food trucks, so when your pooch is frolicking with other pups, you can refuel with a bite to eat.

The developers decided to restore after the downtown grocery store burned down in 2003. But maybe the economy wasn’t doing the right thing. You know the rest of it. But they wanted to turn it into a pop-up dog park. The Barking Lot opened in December 2011 at the intersection of Jefferson and Main to accommodate downtown four-legged condo and apartment residents and their owners. The mini park has benches and a food truck parking area. Unfortunately, the trucks just serve people food for the time being.
