Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church - Top Places to Visit in Helotes, Texas

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church

13715 Riggs Rd, Helotes, TX 78023

The church congregation, regardless of nationality, is polite and very welcoming to tourists and uncommon church goers. The priests are also freely available for private consultation and prayer, and they are compassionate and patient, as with most priests. There are over 70 ministries, and you may or may not be really active. Frontlines show that in 1896 the Catholic ministry in Helotes began with the offering of the Mass, and sometimes and in private homes, the sacraments were administered.

In 1908, on the grounds of what is now the Catholic Cemetery of Helote on the Bandera road a wooden chapel was built. The chapel was a simple building that was used by the village until 1924. Mass was again given and sacraments in private homes were administered. In 1943, graduates of St. Mary's University donated an acre of land to the Catholic Church with a $1,500 grant to the Catholic Extension Society. The day of the Virgin Mary's appearance on December 9 to the native and Christian Aztec convert of Juan Diego is known in Mexico and the USA for being the Day of Our Lady (Dia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe) of Guadalupe in 1531.

On the site of the apparition was built not only a church, eventually the Basilica of Guadalupe. The Tilma was housed in this cathedral for more than 400 years and was unexplainably preserved. The image on the tilma is one of the Virgin surrounded by the light of the sky and the stars of the sky. The stars on the mantle of the Virgin are said to be the exact constellations at that time of the presentation of the tilma. It is still fully displayed and is still on view today. Basilica de Guadalupe is by far the most popular site in the western hemisphere and in the Americas for religious pilgrimage. That is the northwestern part of town, a large Catholic parish.  Saturday's 5 pm mass is an excellent way to begin Sunday thanks. Gorgeous interior and design. The staff are friendly and helpful. Holy time is both peaceful and beautiful with the divine will in Spanish. At 7 in Spanish every Thursday. A new ministry. A new ministry. The church, with its own culture and parishioners and the family, is very comfy.
