Phil Hardberger Park, opened in May 2010, is a 311-acre park located in NW, on either side of Wurzbach Parkway between Blanco Road and Military Highway. Features include trails, playgrounds on two sides of the park, dog parks on both sides of the park, picnic facilities, basketball courts, an outdoor classroom and overlooking the Salado Creek. Construction on a state of the art Urban Ecology Center has started.
Hardberger Park has been designated as a nature reserve. Park visitors are required to follow certain simple rules that will help preserve the land with its wonderful riches for the community. Hikers and bikers reduce their burden on wildlife and plant neighbors, by remaining on the designated trails. Additionally, the regulations include no alcohol, loud music, off-paved motor vehicles or glass containers. Observing the trail protocols will make hiking and cycling more fun for everyone on the trails.
This park offers various lessons in Nature Education. Be sure to look at the classes available at this park.
Phil Hardberger Park West Dog Park is located at 8400 NW. Military Highway. It is a 1,5-acre park with facilities for agility. Divided areas cater both large and small dogs. Open 7:30 in the morning until sunset, seven days a week. It is a pleasant surprise that the entire dog park section is in a wooded area with plenty of cover. There are two dog areas in the park, very clean, lots of other furry friends with ample space for parking.
The park has great paved walking paths and more natural trails. There are plenty of places to stop and sit along the trails. The trails we're very well marked and in excellent condition. There is plenty of direction so it was easy to find the right trails. The trails are wide so there's plenty of space for pedestrians and cyclists alike. The toilets were extremely clean. It was all very lush, and there’s plenty of fresh air. Great oasis right in the city centre.
Aside from this, this is actually a very lovely park. Great park just north of downtown area with zoo, botanical gardens, Japanese Garden, and nearby art museum. Plenty of walking trails, green space, and picnic tables. Very well managed park, colorful and pet friendly, a playground as well as plenty of water fountains and bbq pits. The zoo train does run through parts of this. Something for everyone to enjoy.
