Marietta is located in central Cobb County, Georgia, United States,  and is the county's seat and largest city. It is a full-service municipality known for its rich history, strong sense of community, and high quality of life.

You'll find a good variety of stores and eateries if you stroll around the city's historic downtown. Glover Park, which hosts various outdoor concerts and events, is close by. Many civic events take place downtown, including arts strolls, parades, and a farmers market. Alternatively, have lunch at “The Big Chicken,” a local institution that arose from a KFC restaurant along Cobb Parkway and Roswell Road.

Marietta's warm winters (lows rarely drop below freezing) make it a popular destination for outdoor activities. Summers can be hot, so locals can cool down at the Cobb County government's Sewell Park Pool or at the Marietta Ice Center's rink.

Children who live in Marietta attend Marietta City Schools, an award-winning charter school system that offers a variety of academic programs, including STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and the International Baccalaureate. Marietta's school system is the only one that is not part of the Cobb County school system.

Southern Polytechnic State University, Chattahoochee Technical College's Marietta campus, Life University, which specializes in chiropractic medicine and health science, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, which is located near Dobbins Air Reserve Base, are all located in Marietta.

According to the 2010 census, the city had 56,579 citizens. With a population of 60,867 people in 2019, it was one of Atlanta's largest suburbs. Marietta is the fourth-most populous city in the Atlanta metropolitan area. 

The city of Marietta was founded as a hamlet in 1834 and incorporated as a city in 1852, and is governed by a Mayor, City Council, and City Manager. The City Council is made up of delegates elected from each of the city's seven single-member districts, as well as an at-large Mayor.

The City Council is the city's governing body, with the power to enact and enforce municipal ordinances. Members of the community are appointed by the Mayor and City Council to serve on the city's many boards and commissions, ensuring that the city government is representative of the entire community.

Marietta also has one of the highest crime rates in America, with a rate of 36 per 1,000 population, when compared to all communities of all sizes – from the tiniest towns to the greatest cities. There is a one in 28 probability of becoming a victim of violent or property crime in this city. More than 80% of Georgia communities have a lower crime rate than Marietta.

When compared to comparable municipalities with similar populations, Marietta's crime rate (violent and property offenses combined) is much higher than the national average. Marietta's crime rate per thousand residents is greater than most when compared to places of similar population size, regardless of how it performs in comparison to all communities in America of all sizes.
