Brief History of Pooler, GA

Pooler is a Georgia community located in Chatham County. According to the official 2010 United States Census, the population was 19,140 people, up from 6,239 in 2000. The population was estimated to be 25,694 in 2019. 

Pooler is located on Interstates 95 and 16 northwest of Savannah. It is included in the Savannah metropolitan region.

A train station was constructed in the area that is now known as Pooler in 1838. It was named after Robert William Pooler, a Central of Georgia Railroad employee. In preparation for the siege of Savannah in 1864, General William Tecumseh Sherman and his troops camped in Pooler. 

Ben Rothwell, a visionary, bought hundreds of acres in the city and distributed lots to settlers. Dan Newton, another pioneer, founded the first Baptist Church. In 1907, the city was incorporated. Dairies played a significant part in the economy in the early years. A post office, a bus stop, a cinema, gas stations, and a drug and dime store were all constructed over time.

In 1927, the Shearouse Sawmill and Lumber Company was established. The area is also Chatham County's financial base.

Places to visit in Pooler

The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum is located in Pooler and contains artifacts, displays, and archival materials related to the past of World War II's Eighth Air Force. The Green-Meldrim House, Savannah Victorian Historical District, Nicholsonville Baptist Church, Fort James Jackson, and the Savannah and Ogeechee Canal are all close to the area. 

Nature parks, picnic spots, and wildlife watching facilities abound at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, which spans 28,168 acres. Hiking, fishing, camping, and picnicking are all available at Skidaway Island State Park.

Commercial Growth in Pooler

In west Chatham County, Pooler is the epicenter of commercial growth. Godley Station, the business development centre, has been active in bringing major businesses to the city, such as JCB, a construction equipment manufacturer. 

Blue Force Gear, a military gear maker, has its headquarters there. Gulfstream Aerospace, a private jet maker, is headquartered just outside the city limits. It is one of the major private jet manufacturers in the United States, and it employs a substantial number of people in the Savannah and Pooler areas.

The Shops at Godley Station, one of the newest shopping malls in the city, is taking in new sales. Low crime rates and a small-town neighborhood culture have both contributed to the city's rapid development. Pooler is currently one of the fastest-growing cities in Georgia.
