With 1,547,253 people in 2019, San Antonio, officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh-most populous city in the United States, and the second-most populous city in both Texas and the South United States. The deep history of the city stands in contrast to its rapid development over the past few decades. From 2000 to 2010, it was the fastest-growing of the top ten largest cities in the USA, and the second from 1990 to 2000. Setting the geographic division between South and Central Texas, San Antonio occupies the southwest corner of a metropolitan megaregion known colloquially as the “Texas Triangle.”
San Antonio is a very popular destination for tourists. The San Antonio Alamo Mission (“The Alamo”), located in Downtown, is the main tourist attraction in Texas. San Antonio is also called “Alamo City” because of the mission.
There are also several commercial amusement parks in San Antonio including Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Splashtown and Morgan’s Wonderland, a children’s theme park with special needs. Kiddie Park was founded in 1925, featuring old-fashioned children’s amusement rides, and is the oldest children’s amusement park in the USA.
The city’s five missions, the four in the National Historical Park of San Antonio Missions plus The Alamo, were declared UNESCO World Heritage sites on July 5, 2015. The San Antonio Missions is the 23rd U.S. site on the list of World Heritage sites that includes the Grand Canyon and the Statue of Liberty; it is Texas’ first site. The River Walk’s new Mission Scope was completed in 2013, creating more than 15 miles of biking, hiking and paddling trails linking the Missions to downtown and the Broadway Corridor.
In addition to creating a well-kept National Park as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the San Antonio Missions National Park ‘s five missions: San Antonio, San Jose, Concepcion, San Juan and Espada. The missions are restored to varying degrees. Four are within walking distance from each other-yes, a fair walk between them, and by bus or car as well. They are stunning to see and the scenery is stunning, too. Each site records the functions of the number of other structures on the site, as well as the history of that mission. Unesco sites are always worth a visit and this is no different in Texas.
Other places of interest include the San Antonio Botanical Garden, the Brackenridge Park, the Japanese Tea Gardens, the La Cantera Stores, the Sunken Garden Theatre, the Woodlawn Theater and the Majik Theatre, an immersive theater for children.  Â
