Strand Theatre is a historic theatre that has been in operation since 1935. The theater seats 600 people and offers live performances on stage, contemporary films on the big screen, music concerts and dance recitals.
The Strand Theatre was built by contractor Charles Loring Jr., for his son-in-law Walter Gregory who owned it until 1949 when he sold out to Keith Bryan Sr. It was renamed “Theatre Superba” from 1963 to 1998 under various ownerships before ultimately returning its original name of “Strand.” Current owner Clark Truitt acquired the building in 2000 then retired as general manager two years later making way for current General Manager Scott Miller who oversees operations at both Marietta theatres.
One of the most notable features of The Strand is its Wurlitzer theatre organ. Originally installed in 1938, it was rebuilt and expanded with additional pipes in 1977.
The Strand Theatre offers a variety of live performances ranging from dance recitals to concerts featuring artists such as Alison Krauss and Union Station.
Strand Theater features contemporary films on the big screen with genres including comedy, drama, action and horror. A current listing of movies can be found here (insert link).
With its 600 seats The Strand is able to accommodate audiences who are looking for something different at an affordable price that will not require much planning or expense. This may include last-minute plans like going out during a weekday night without paying premium prices because it allows moviegoers to buy tickets online in advance; theater goers do not have to worry about bringing snacks or waiting in line for concessions because they are served in the lobby during intermissions.
Strand Theatre is located at 150 South Main Street, Marietta 28601.
There is a public parking lot behind The Strand that offers free evening and weekend parking as well as metered street-side parking for $0.75 per hour all day on weekdays and $0.50 per hour after noon on weekends (insert link).
