New River Linear Trail

3809-3835 Okatie Highway, Bluffton, South Carolina 29910, United States

The New River Linear Trail is 3.4 miles long and runs through the city of Bluffton in South Carolina. The route, which is shared with power lines along an abandoned Seaboard Air Line Railway corridor, starts in the north at the edge of the Sun City development and ends on the banks of the New River.

The New River Linear Trail uses an old railroad underpass near its midpoint to avoid dangerous crossings of S.C. Route 46/170. Closer to the river, the trail bisects the Heritage at New Riverside development, making it a fantastic resource for the community's residents.

Although the grass trail is generally flat, wider tires are recommended due to its unpaved nature. Although the New River Linear Trail is only 3.4 miles long, it passes through some breathtaking scenery. The landscape in the north is a mix of hardwood forest and swampland, with plenty of wildlife.

Turkeys, deer, and waterfowl are among the more common residents, and armadillos and even alligators have been spotted. The grid of channels from long-abandoned rice fields is often visible further south, before the trail ends at the New River.

Parking and Trail Access

The only formal parking for the New River Linear Trail is accessible via a driveway off S.C. Route 46 between the two Heritage at New Riverside development entrances. The parking lot has 13 gravel spaces, two paved handicap spaces, and ten mulch overflow spaces. A short mulch path connects the parking lot to the New River Linear Trail.
