S&S Greenway

600 Gentilly Road, Statesboro, Georgia 30458, United States

The S&S Greenway is located in southeastern Statesboro, Georgia Southern University's home town. It follows the former Savannah & Statesboro Railway's path, which initially opened in 1897.

The route is currently open for more than 2 miles and features a unique mix of deep forest and bustling shopping and dining districts at both ends. The trail's southern terminus, which is newer, runs parallel to the recently built S.S. Railroad Bed Road. The trail passes through a tunnel beneath the bustling Veterans Memorial Parkway.

The S&S Greenway, which will eventually span from downtown Brooklet to the south, will be 8 miles long.

Parking and Trail Access

At both ends of the path, parking is available at the trailheads: Gentilly Road in the west and Pretoria Rushing Road in the east. In both locations, restrooms are also available.

The Savannah & Statesboro (S&S) Greenway is a 2.75-mile paved walking/biking trail that follows the former S&S Railroad right-of-way. Restrooms, paved parking, and explanatory signage are available at the Gentilly Road Trailhead. The 12-foot-wide multi-use route continues eastward, passing under the 301 Bypass. The trail then crosses Cawana Road and travels parallel to Railroad Bed Road before coming to an end at the Pretoria-Rushing and Burkhalter Roads intersection. Paved parking, restrooms, explanatory signage, drinking fountains, park seats, and a picnic area are all available at the Pretoria Rushing Road Trailhead.

The trail follows a former rail bed for the Savannah and Statesboro Line, which was built in the mid-1800s to transport turpentine and cotton from Statesboro to Savannah's port.

Along its three-mile route, the trail passes through a variety of environments, from suburban to farmland, wetlands, and the village atmosphere of downtown Brooklet, Georgia.

Dogs are allowed on this trail because it is a straight line. There are poop bags available at the trailhead, but there is no drinking fountain for dogs, so bring a bowl for your four-legged buddy.
