The United Westwood Neighborhood is bounded by Military Drive to the east and north, Loop 410 to the south, and United Nations Avenue (Loop 1604) to the west. United Westwood Neighborhood consists primarily of single-family homes with some duplexes and townhomes along its western boundary on United Nations Avenue (Loop 1604). The area was developed mainly during World War II through post-war years until about 1956.

George Schroeder, a local artist in San Antonio has created an impressive tribute to freedom. The sculpture features the five branches of military: Air Force (in air), Army, Coast Guard and Marine Corps each with their own metal form representing them; alongside sits one final Navy piece for good measure that symbolizes safety from all angles at sea or land.

A 75-foot-tall aluminum and steel artwork depicts an obelisk that is based on the Washington monument. The remaining four figures surround the main obelisk, representing the military’s role in defending the United States.

Parks, Schools & Other Points of Interest in United Westwood

United Westwood is also home to some amazing parks, schools, public libraries and schools for its citizens to enjoy.  These facilities are all world-class, beautifully maintained and clean so residents of surrounding communities often visit to enjoy them.  Here’s a short list all located in United Westwood:  

1. Guerra Library | 7978 W Military Dr, San Antonio, TX 78227 (210) 207-9070

The library board selected the name to honor long-time San Antonio historian and author Henry Guerra, who died in 2001. He was a native of our city and attended high school from Central Catholic High School and attended St Mary’s University.

The new Guerra Branch Library opened to the public on July 14, 2004. The construction of this $2,799144 dollar facility was made possible through funds from a 1999 bond vote and an additional million dollars in CDBG grant money.

Henry Guerra Public Library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12pm-8 pm, with the rest of their week hours 10 am -6pm. They also have a self checkout station for added convenience.

2.USAF Airman Heritage Training Complex, JBSA-Lackland, TX | 5206 George Ave, Lackland AFB, TX 78236 (210) 6713055

The Airman Heritage Museum at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland tells the story of the base, the early days of the Air Force, and pays tribute to those who have served as Airmen.

Its vision is to create a new state-of-the-art learning resource and development center to preserve and exhibit the proud heritage, countless sacrifices, and significant achievements of enlisted airmen while also being a source of education about their rich history. With a total of 42 different aircraft from eight decades, the Lackland Airpark is one of the most spectacular in the Air Force.

The Security Forces Exhibit Annex Museum, at 1300 Femoyer St., is open Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
