About the University of Texas at San Antonio
Founded in 1969, University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) currently has over 30,000 students enrolled in 133 separate degree programs. UTSA has been accredited by the United States for academic excellence. News and World Report, ranked the nation’s number 46 undergraduate engineering programs. The business school of the university is the largest in the system of the University of Texas. UTSA is the only NCAA Division I institution in San Antonio, a member of the Southland Conference.
Academics
University of Texas at San Antonio offers 66 undergraduate degrees in eight colleges and schools: College of Architecture, College of Business, College of Education and Human Development, College of Engineering, College of Liberal and Fine Arts, College of Public Policy, College of Science, College of Honors and Graduate School. There is a second campus in central San Antonio and a third campus in Hemisphere Park, home of the Texas Cultures Institute, in addition to the main campus. Affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, this museum features 65,000 square feet of exhibits on Texas people and culture.
Admissions
Using the Apply Texas program, prospective freshmen may apply to University of Texas at San Antonio. Registered high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores and a $60 application fee should also be paid by applicants. Students are automatically admitted to the USTA in the top 25 percent of their graduating class. Beginning in 2013, students will be automatically enrolled in the second quartile with a score above 1100 or an ACT above 24. Others may be accepted after the examination of the committee. Applicants can monitor their application status online. UTSA’s priority deadline is March 1; domestic applicants ‘ final deadline is June 1.
Tuition & Financial Aid
UTSA’s annual tuition for in-state undergraduate students for 2010-2011 was $8,410, while room and board cost $8,696, and books and supplies were about $1,000. International students paid tuition at $16,567, room and board at $7,285, and books and supplies at $1,250. Around 82 percent of UTSA undergraduates receive some sort of financial support. The school offers several-level scholarships, including the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, the Rising Star Scholarship, and the Rising Roadrunner Scholarship. UTSA also offers 60 different general scholarships and a wide range of departmental scholarships. Seniors with a 2.5 GPA indicating financial need may be eligible for a $1,000 interest-free loan from Crawford. There are also available grants, student loans, and work-study services.
