The Ray & Joan Kroc Community Center is a 100,000 square foot recreation, education, worship and arts center.

The Kroc Center is a healthy, compassionate and exciting place in our community where people of all ages, races, educational backgrounds and economic means can come together to learn, develop and discover their potential and experience God’s love in the process.

Joan Kroc’s Story

Joan Kroc, the wife of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, said she had taken a tour of San Diego and it was then that she noticed a neighborhood that was in dire need of a safe meeting place, a place with facilities and qualified practitioners to foster children’s social skills, love of the arts and athletic ability. She described the Kroc Center as a beacon of light and hope in the community.

Mrs. Kroc entrusted the Salvation Army with $90 million to construct the first Kroc Center in the San Diego neighborhood of Rolando. Unfortunately, she died a little more than a year after it opened. She was so happy with what was done here that she left $1.5 billion to the Salvation Army to create centers like this around the world. There are currently 26 Kroc Centers nationwide.
