CBD Hemp plants VS. Marijuana: What’s the Difference?

Both plants come from the Cannabis Sativa plant family. Marijuana has thicker and wider leaves, while hemp has slimmer and glossier leaves.

Hemp and marijuana plants contain over one hundred cannabinoids, but the number of cannabinoids inside marijuana and hemp is what separates them.

Marijuana has a larger amount of these cannabinoids. Probably the most well-known cannabinoid inside these plants is THC, which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, the cannabinoid that gets you “high.” The second most well-known cannabinoid is CBD, which stands for cannabidiol. CBD won’t get you “high,” but it does offer many reported health and wellness benefits.

For marijuana, it’s not uncommon for strains to reach past 25% THC. Yet, in hemp (cannabis plant), THC accounts for less than 0.3%, which isn’t enough to even get you “high” or show up on a drug test

Both marijuana and hemp contain CBD. However, interestingly, the hemp plant contains significantly larger amounts of CBD than the marijuana plant.

Hemp has been removed from the Controlled Substances Act. Due to hemp’s low THC level, it has been used in the cannabis industry. It is argued that hemp could replace many industrial materials due to its strong fibers. Industrial hemp has been used to create rope, clothes, buildings, and much more.
