We hope your 4/20 was dope. This year, 4/20 was extra special due to all the companies and individuals who participated. As cannabis legalization increases and the stigma around the marijuana plant decreases, it seems that each year 4/20 receives more praise and celebration.
Some big-name food brands announced their participation for 4/20, two brands, in particular, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream and Carl Jr.’s Hamburger. Ben & Jerry’s gave out free ice cream to anyone who was shopping for marijuana on 4/20. As if shopping for weed isn’t a treat already. Carl’s Jr. released a special edition to its menu, a CBD hamburger. How could one’s 4/20 get any better with this kind of treatment?
Ben & Jerry’s 420 Event
For 4/20 Ben & Jerry’s partnered up with one of the top cannabis dispensaries, Caliva. On Friday and Saturday, Caliva gave out free pints of B&J Ice cream for all the delivery orders they received. The flavor given out was none other than, “Half Baked.” A cannabis lover’s dream come true.
Just as the free ice cream was great, so was the reason why the companies partnered up. Caliva donated 4.2% of the sales generated during 4/20 to Code for America’s Clear My Record Program. The program helps people who have been arrested for cannabis possession.
Ben & Jerry's is a very progressive company known for it's liberal policies. The company has strongly voiced it's opinion regarding reform in the American criminal justice system. On the Ben & Jerry’s website, it even states “The US criminal justice system is broke.”
They go into depth on this topic by explaining that “there are more than 2 million people in the nation's prisons and jails, making the US the world's leader in incarceration—with more people locked up per capita than any other country. Moreover, people of color are dramatically overrepresented in the nation's prisons and jails.”
Carls Jr.’s CBD Hamburger
The popular hamburger chain celebrated 4/20 by introducing a “Rocky Mountain High Cheese Burger Delight,” topped with a CBD-infused Santa Fe sauce. The CBD-infused sauce contained roughly five milligrams of extracted CBD. It was available at only one location in Denver, Colorado. If you were one of the few who got to experience this greatness, needless to say, you had an epic 4/20.
The Bottom Line
Every “420” ushers in a new year of cannabis acceptance as the stigma that surrounds the plant decreases. This year’s 4/20 included some pretty awesome things. From cannabis-infused foods to support for policies aimed at helping improve America’s justice system, this 4/20 was one for the books.
