Recently in Atlanta, Georgia, some interesting progress towards cannabis legalization was made. Brian Kemp, the Republican Governor, signed legislation into law that allows the production and sale of low-THC products. Only 5% of THC will be allowed in products. In addition, there also has to be an equal or greater ratio amount of CBD to THC.

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol and CBD stands for cannabinol. To put it simply, THC gets you “high” and CBD does not. THC and CBD are just two out of many cannabinoids.

The legislation signed was House Bill 324, also called “Georgia’s Hope Act.” This bill will let a total of six cultivation operations, owned by private companies. Two licenses will go to larger corporations and the other four will go to smaller corporations.

The Future of Cannabis and Hemp

This makes Georgia one out of twelve states allowing patients to possess low potency THC products. The nation as a whole is very fragmented when it comes to legalization, with each state and city having its own unique cannabis laws.

Georgia’s neighbor, Florida has seen some interesting advancements in regard to cannabis legalization. Medical marijuana was voted for and accepted by the majority of voters, yet there was government pushback regarding the smoking of MMJ.

It will be interesting to see how marijuana legalization pans out in Georgia, Florida, and the rest of the US. Hopefully, we will continue to see positive strides.
