CBD continues to be a hot topic as cannabis legalization spreads. Every day the cannabis industry continues to grow rapidly which has media and news stations on constant watch for the newest updates. It’s not hard to see why it’s such an interesting industry to watch unfold. This is our modern-day prohibition taking place before our very eyes.
As cannabis became more studied and observed in more depth, CBD began to emerge due to it being identified as the property inside cannabis that can help with certain conditions such as arthritis, stress, anxiety, depression, and much more. CBD stands for cannabinol and is one cannabinoid out of over one hundred cannabinoids that exist within cannabis.
Recently, CBD-infused consumable products have taken off. Consumables like CBD gummies, CBD coffee, and CBD ice cream are just a few types that are growing in popularity.
Although CBD is a hot topic, one company’s approach to CBD is a pretty cold. Ben & Jerry’s, the well-known ice-cream brand for voicing their liberal political views and a strong believer in cannabis legalization, has given some insight into their new type of ice-cream. A CBD-infused one. We know, we were also surprised that Ice-cream could get even better.
More on Ben & Jerry’s CBD Ice-cream
If you are familiar with Ben & Jerry’s, you probably know they are not shy about voicing their political beliefs. Recently, the company stated that they will start experimenting with CBD in their ice-creams once it becomes legal in all 50 states.
Due to FDA regulations, CBD added to food and beverages is not allowed. However, a public hearing has already taken place to discuss allowing CBD in food and drink products. Not surprisingly, Ben & Jerry’s had something to say.
Matthew McCarthy, Ben & jerry’s CEO, said in a statement “We're doing this for our fans.”
He added, “We've listened and brought them everything from Non-Dairy indulgences to on-the-go portions with our Pint Slices. We aspire to love our fans more than they love us and we want to give them what they're looking for in a fun, Ben & Jerry's way.”
For those who aren’t familiar with Ben & Jerry’s, this isn’t their first attempt at breaking into the cannabis scene with their ice-creams. The company has produced flavors such as “half-baked.”
In addition, on 4/20 they also participated in a collaborative event with Caliva, a top cannabis dispensary, by giving out free ice-cream to those who placed orders for delivery. It’s safe to say, Ben & Jerry’s is on our side.
The Future of CBD Foods
The cannabis industry has come a long way from it’s start, but there’s still a long way to go. It’s great to see so many company’s and individual’s supporting CBD and fighting for what the people want. Hopefully, one-day CBD-infused foods will become nonchalantly viewed and be treated as a regular ingredient or add in. That’s the world we want to one day live in.
