Cannabinol, also known as CBD, has become one of the hottest topics in the news and media.
As if CBD couldn’t become an even more talked about product since it’s claimed health and wellness benefits have become publicly acclaimed.
With celebrities, entrepreneurs, and professional athletes endorsing CBD products or creating brands themselves, the stuff seems to have skyrocketed in popularity.
What is CBD?
CBD is what cannabis experts claim to be the medicinal property within the hemp plant. Hemp-derived CBD does not get users “high” like cannabis containing THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).
CBD became popular after a cannabis strain called, Charlotte's Web helped a little girl named, Charlotte Figi, to maintain a normal state of life from a rare form of epilepsy, Dravet Syndrome, which causes seizures.
CBD & sports
One of the reasons CBD has become such a hot topic in the sports realm is due to its medical properties with no reported harmful side effects. CBD could become an ideal solution for sports athletes in search of a recovery aid.
Athletes need to stay in top physical performance; however, their bodies can take a beating. CBD offers athletes a form of relief without having to fear any intoxication or harmful side effects.
Rob Gronkowski & CBD
Recently, Gronkowski, a popular American football player who played for the New England Patriots announced a partnership with Abacus Health to create a line of CBD-based products.
With National Football League’s (NFL) strict policy on CBD products, Gronkowski wants the organization to become more aware of CBD's potential benefits for helping player’s recover from injuries and exercising.
Players like Gronkowski have reported the mental and physical beating playing in an intense league like NFL can cause. Gronkowski has suffered from multiple injuries playing the sport but has reported that he now experiences pain relief for the first time in ten years.
“For the first time in more than a decade, I am pain-free,” Gronkowski said, noting that CBD products became a part of his life after he retired following the 2018 season. “And that is a big deal.”
CBD and Athletes
Gronkowski isn’t the first professional athletes to get involves with CBD. There have plenty before him from many different athletic backgrounds. Players like Ricky Williams (former NFL player), Lamar Odom (former NBA player), and John Isner (Pro tennis player) just to name a few.
